Job description

The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer provides hands-on technical support and leadership for the design, installation, and upkeep of electrical and instrumentation in a chemical manufacturing facility handling highly hazardous materials. This role spans the entire lifecycle of E&I assets to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation.

The engineer will serve as the technical lead for capital projects within their scope, ensuring alignment with local, national, and corporate standards, as well as OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, coachable, and able to work effectively across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.

The engineer will report directly to the Plant Engineering Manager (PEM)

Job Responsibilities

Electrical & Instrumentation Systems

  • Support design, specification, and modification of E&I systems including low- and medium-voltage power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, and control panels.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve field instrumentation, analyzers, and process control loops.
  • Provide technical oversight of the site’s SIS hardware and logic in accordance with IEC 61511.
  • Manage and continuously improve the calibration program to maintain reliability and compliance.
  • Lead RCA’s to drive continuous improvement
  • Function as the E&I technical lead for assigned capital and expense projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation design packages, review vendor submittals, and provide field support during installation and startup.
  • Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules in coordination with project and operations teams.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all E&I systems meet NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, ISA, and OSHA PSM requirements.
  • Support PHA, LOPA, and MOC processes with E&I expertise.
  • Maintain documentation and participate in audits, inspections, and management system reviews.

Operations & Reliability Support

  • Troubleshoot control system and motor control issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to develop and refine preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Support operational troubleshooting and training as needed to enhance reliability and process safety.
