Job summary

Concentric Integration, a full-service automation provider for water and wastewater facilities, seeks an Electrical and Automation Design Engineer in Peoria or Chicago, IL. You will design electrical power distribution, create SLDs, PLC architectures, and instrument/control schemes for municipal projects.

Work in consulting and integration design roles, developing drawings, P&IDs, wiring schematics and panel layouts.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years’ experience in electrical design for water/wastewater projects.
• AutoCAD proficiency and strong documentation skills.
• Effective oral and written communication, and collaboration with design staff.
• Strong organizational skills and time management.
• Ability to identify and solve problems promptly.
• P.E. license or EIT certification with field experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical distribution systems, including one‑line diagrams and panel elevations.
• Prepare project specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and process controls.
• Create P&IDs and detailed control panel wiring schematics.
• Develop instrumentation and control system submittal packages.
• Design automation and SCADA components for water/wastewater processes.
• Review design standards with the E&A Design Director to ensure codes and best practices.
• Occasionally visit client sites to verify field conditions for design documents.

The Electrical and Automation Design Engineer is primarily responsible for the design of Water/Wastewater electrical power distribution and technology improvements for municipalities. E&A Design Engineer works in two capacities, Consulting Engineering and Integration Design.

Consulting engineering projects are in multidisciplinary teams to create design documents for process improvements at Water/Wastewater facilities. Design documents include Electrical site and building plans, Single‑line Diagrams, Lighting Plans, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, along with detailed control panel schematics, and other related documents.

Integration design projects are to support the integration efforts process improvements at Water/Wastewater facilities. The E&A Design Engineer will work with integrators and project managers to design control panels and instrumentation for fabrication/installation as part of construction projects or turn‑key projects.

What your day‑to‑day will look like

• Report to E&A Design Director for work responsibilities, scheduling, and quality control.
• Design electrical distribution systems, including one‑line diagrams, plan drawings, panel schedules, and equipment elevations.
• Prepare project specifications as they pertain to electrical, instrumentation, and process controls.
• Prepare Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Prepare detailed control panel wiring schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, communication diagrams, etc.
• Prepare instrumentation and control system submittal packages.
• Design automation, controls, and related SCADA systems for water/wastewater processes, including communications, PLC architecture, instrumentation, and related software and hardware.
• May work with the E&A Design Director to periodically review and update design standards to maintain compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
• Occasionally visit client sites to investigate existing field conditions as required for preparing design documents.

Education Requirement

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.

Must-haves, what you will bring

• 4+ years’ experience in electrical design
• Advanced Computer Skills, Literacy, & Proficiency.
• AutoCAD experience
• Possess effective oral, written, & digital communication skills.
• Able to easily interact with other design staff.
• Possess effective organizational skills for productive tasks and time management.
• Able to identify and solve problems promptly.

Preferred Qualifications, Certifications, and Licenses

• Autodesk Revit experience
• Visio experience is a plus or must be willing to be quickly trained
• SKM or other electrical study software experience
• P.E. license or EIT certification with experience in the field working towards a P.E. license

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $85,000 to $115,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
