Job summary

The City of Naperville seeks a Safety Specialist – Electric to serve as the primary safety resource supporting Naperville’s electric utility operations and construction activities. You will coordinate and deliver targeted training, strengthen hazard identification and job planning, develop and maintain electric utility safety procedures, and partner with employees to conduct field inspections.

Qualifications

• Requires training development and delivery experience.
• Experience conducting site inspections and hazard assessments.
• Develops and maintains written safety procedures and programs.
• Valid Illinois driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers targeted safety training for electric operations.
• Supports safety meetings and reinforces safety expectations.
• Identifies hazards and recommends practical risk controls for field work.
• Maintains safety procedures, forms, and job planning documents.
• Conducts JHAs/JSAs and risk assessments for tasks and methods.
• Performs field inspections of electric distribution and construction activities.
• Supports incident investigations with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Provides field-based safety guidance and mentoring to crews and supervisors.
• Ensures PPE and equipment readiness aligned with hazards and conditions.
• Coordinates with contractors to align safety expectations on electric projects.
• Maintains records of inspections, training, and corrective actions.
• Produces reports on safety activities and corrective actions.
