Job Description
Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking an Electric Utility Designer / Project Coordinator to support transmission line projects in a remote role. The role focuses on supporting transmission line engineering and construction projects such as work request closeouts, data entry, and other administrative duties. Electric utility design or construction project administration experience is required. The position will also support GIS data analytics, create notifications, work orders, invoicing, and financial reports utilizing enterprise resource planning software.
Responsibilities
- Update work packages, close out work requests, perform data entry, and other administrative duties as needed.
- Analyze field-collected data to accurately update applicable software packages for successful design implementation.
- Communicate with co‑workers and clients to agree on the best solution for engineering design.
- Be accountable for assigned work and ensure completion on schedule and within budget, regularly communicating status with management.
- Frequently communicate with clients.
- Provide timely and detailed documentation and support to accounting functions for project budgeting and accounting.
- Transcribe notes and use measuring devices to identify, inspect, and record data in an organized manner.
- Endure frequent driving, standing, walking (numerous miles a day), navigating (on foot or in a vehicle), and balancing objects that may weigh up to 20 pounds in congested and/or complex terrain.
- Work in all weather conditions and in residential, commercial, and industrial areas as needed.
- Work is primarily office‑based but fieldwork may be required throughout the engineering design process.
- Attend meetings at client sites and regularly interact with the general public, including landowners and operators.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline with 10 years of experience in transmission line design.
- Organized and able to keep data organized from start to finish on a project.
- Ability to prioritize work on multiple projects and effectively communicate project statuses.
- Computer proficiency including general Microsoft Office products, design, and business enterprise software.
- Effective written and oral communication at all levels within an organizational structure.
- Dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance.
- Ability to pass a fit‑for‑duty test.
- Ability to work in an office setting.
- Required to pass a post‑offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and may be subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics.
- Working knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction.
- Familiarity with design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables.
- Familiarity with safe work practices and PPE applications.
Location Note
This is a remote position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.
Salary Range
$26.00 - $34.00/hr (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
