Job summary

Peak Utility Infrastructure is seeking a Meter Tech in Florida to support meter maintenance under the Meter Foreman and Utility Manager. The role involves setting, reading, and servicing electric meters while ensuring safety and compliance with procedures.

Travel up to 75% is required and prior utility field experience is preferred. Key responsibilities include interfacing with clients, verifying meter communications, and maintaining tools and worksites.

Qualifications

  • Utility Field Experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with underground or overhead utilities is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year to year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Meets client and operating company standards related to meter work in accordance with our core value.
  • Responsible for checking the meter's communication with the utility.
  • Working with energized electric equipment to respond to meter issue for Florida Power and Light.
  • Services provided: Setting, changing, or disconnecting the electric meter as well as reading investigation.
  • Able to access meter locations at Residential and Commercial premises.
  • Cleans and prepares worksites to eliminate possible hazard.
  • Monitors and maintains tools and equipment for proper use, storage, and upkeep.
  • Completes all work in an organized, timely manner, within standard operating procedure.
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards and communicates abnormal working conditions to appropriate parties.
  • Assists crew leaders in construction/reconstruction and maintenance work providing meter support.
  • Works safely around customer houses and private property, backhoes, excavators, and directional drill.
  • Travel is required up to 75% of time

Pay Rate: $19.00 - $20.00

The Meter Tech works under the direction of Meter Foreman and Utility Manager and performs physical activities in support of meter maintenance.

Success Factors:

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. multiple times during a work shift
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-worker
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills

Experience and Education:

  • Utility Field Experience is preferred
  • Previous experience working with underground or overhead utilities is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year to year basis

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
