Job summary

Northcentral Electric Cooperative is seeking a Staking Technician I to survey, stake, and prepare plans for electric line construction and service changes. You will determine materials, review right-of-way requirements, and coordinate with internal teams to support project execution.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, familiarity with distribution systems, and strong math and map-reading skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel for training are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED minimum.
• Safe working knowledge of overhead electric distribution lines and substations preferred.
• Familiarity with voltage charts, load survey meters and CT meters preferred.
• Knowledge of RUS construction specifications and NEC safety code preferred.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios and geometric construction.
• Follow instructions and retain information.
• Prepare sketches and staking sheets for construction.
• Read maps and interpret conducts drawings.
• Strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• PC competency; drafting platforms and MS Office preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Team player; able to work with others.
• Attend out-of-town staking technician training.

Responsibilities

• Interprets staking instructions, wire sag charts, fuse charts, voltage drop charts and construction specifications to prepare staking sheets.
• Operates surveyor’s transit to survey new electric lines.
• Maintains and prepares staking sheets for maintenance work.
• Responds to attachment requests and creates work orders to meet clearances.
• Prepares overhead and underground design drawings and staking sheets using specifications and construction units.
• Prepares legal easement descriptions for proposed utility locations and stakes designs in the field.
• Meets with developers, architects and contractors to determine service requirements and resolve conflicts.
• Maintains communications with statewide one-call system for underground cables and coordinates with internal/external departments.
