The position requires a high school diploma or GED, a Texas Class C driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within a year. Outdoor work with varied hours and random drug testing are involved.

Primary Purpose

Assists Electric Lineman in the building and maintenance of power systems to keep outages to a minimum; performs courteous customer service.

Organization Relationships

Reports to: Electric Crew Supervisor; may receive direction from Electric Superintendent.
Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
Other: Has frequent contact with customers, city administration, and various employees within the City of Lampasas.

Essential Job Functions

• Supports Lineman employees;
• Cleans utility trucks;
• Stocks utility trucks with materials, poles, and transformers;
• Assembles electric apparatus;
• Sends materials up pole using hand line;
• Pulls up service wire on hand line;

• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned

Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of general electrical system principles, practices, procedures, and safety codes; basic electrical design; standard office practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of the safe operation of motorized equipment as it relates to the Texas Motor Vehicle Code; and
• Ability to accurately interpret instructions related to assisting in building, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems; remain safety conscious at all times; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public; and identify equipment and tools used in building, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Texas Drivers' License Class C
• Ability to obtain a valid Texas commercial drivers' license (CDL) Class B within the first 12 months of employment

Working Conditions

Works outdoors in varied weather conditions. Work may be performed in rough terrain. Work schedule shall include evening, weekends, and holiday hours. Sitting, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting required. Will be subject to random drug screening.

Conditions of Employment

Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C Drivers' License as the incumbent shall be appointed to drive a City vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.
