Job summary

United Utility Services in Amarillo, TX is seeking a Designer for overhead electric distribution projects. You will process field survey data, draft construction drawings, and update GIS with current conditions to strengthen the client’s grid.

The ideal candidate has a 3-5 year background in power distribution design/engineering, proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office, and a valid driver’s license. A permissive role with on-site field work and safety awareness is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/associate degree in engineering or technology is required.
• 3-5 years of power distribution design/engineering experience.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass background/credit checks.
• Strong communication skills with clients and project teams.
• Ability to adapt to changing requirements and environments.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Design Manager is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Update GIS data reflecting current field conditions.
• Design and process construction work requests for overhead electric distribution.
• Prepare CAD drawings and QA review-ready documents.
• Draft distribution circuit designs with basic engineering concepts.
• Assist with cost estimates, field data, maps, and records.
• Maintain project activity in the management system.
• Attend training to stay proficient in design tasks and safety.
• Support storm restoration activities as needed.
• Collaborate with client engineers at design stages.
