Job description

Join Orange EV, a fast-growing manufacturer of electric vehicles that are better for the earth, people and the bottom line. Make a difference for the world as part of a company leading the electric vehicle revolution.

Position Summary

The Electric Assembly Technician builds and tests electrical and electronic subassemblies on the production floor, with a primary focus on assembling Orange EV's electric vehicle chargers. This role reads wiring diagrams and work instructions to assemble wire harnesses, install and torque electrical components, and perform in-process electrical testing — all while following strict quality, documentation, and safety standards appropriate to line-voltage and high-voltage equipment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Assemble electric vehicle chargers and charging subassemblies according to engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Build wire harnesses and cable assemblies — including stripping, crimping, terminating, and soldering — to workmanship standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620).
  • Install and torque electrical and mechanical components — enclosures, connectors, contactors, relays, circuit boards, and power modules — to specification.
  • Perform in-process and final electrical testing on chargers and subassemblies, including continuity, dielectric/hipot, and functional testing.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and step-by-step assembly work instructions.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and test equipment — crimpers, torque wrenches, soldering irons, multimeters, and hipot testers.
  • Identify and report quality defects or nonconformances to the supervisor or quality team, and participate in root-cause and corrective action activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate build documentation and traceability records — serial numbers, lot numbers, and test results — per the quality management system.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including electrical safety practices such as lockout/tagout and required PPE, given regular work with line-voltage and high-voltage charger components.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation (5S) and actively support continuous improvement on the line.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production leadership to resolve build issues and improve assembly processes.
  • Support new product introduction by building prototype or first-article charger units and providing feedback on manufacturability.
Position Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in electrical/electronic assembly, wire harness assembly, or a similar hands-on production role.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and written work instructions.
  • Working proficiency with hand tools, crimpers, soldering irons, and a multimeter.
  • Basic understanding of electrical concepts (voltage, current, continuity) and the ability to work safely around electrical components.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 35 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks throughout a shift.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience assembling chargers, power electronics, or other line-voltage/high-voltage electrical equipment.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or equivalent wire harness workmanship training.
  • Experience in an automotive, EV, or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, electrical technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with electrical test equipment such as hipot/dielectric testers and continuity testers.
Key Skills and Competencies
  • Wire harness assembly, crimping, and soldering
  • Schematic and wiring diagram interpretation
  • Electrical testing fundamentals (continuity, dielectric, functional test)
  • Hand and power tool proficiency
  • Attention to detail and quality workmanship
  • Electrical safety awareness (PPE, lockout/tagout)
  • Build documentation and traceability
  • Teamwork and clear communication with supervisors and quality
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing/production environment and requires the ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
  • Stand, bend, and move throughout the production floor for up to 100% of a shift.
  • Lift and carry up to 35 lbs. regularly, and occasionally lift heavier components with assistance or lifting equipment.
  • Perform repetitive motions (crimping, soldering, fastening) for extended periods.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on the production floor.
