Job summary

Frederick County Government is seeking individuals to support the Board of Elections in a part‑time, non‑exempt role. Work ranges from 20–40 hours weekly with mornings 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and many weekends, through December 2026.

Duties include packing polling supplies, preparing voting equipment, assisting with training, ballot handling, office clerical tasks, and public inquiries. Qualifications require being at least 18, registered Maryland voters, data entry

Qualifications

  • May not be a candidate for any Maryland public or party office, nor be actively involved in a campaign

JOB INFORMATION

Non-exempt; part-time position working part-time and full-time now through December 2026; 20-40 hours per week; varied schedule; Monday – Friday and most weekends; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; no-benefits

This position performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the Board of Elections office operations, assisting as the workload increases between now and the Gubernatorial Primary and the General Election. Supervision is received from the Director of Elections.

Essential Duties And Job Responsibilities
  • Help pack polling place supplies
  • Prepare voting equipment
  • Assist with Election Judge training

  • Perform reception duties from visits, calls, and email; provide timely and accurate information and assistance regarding inquiries
  • Other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

A successful incumbent operating in this role displays the following:

  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Drivers privileges
  • Ability to follow written instructions to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Basic clerical and record-keeping skills, including the ability to accurately perform basic math and financial functions
  • Ability to effectively access and utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, spreadsheet and other systems and equipment, and to learn new software as it is required
  • Ability to effectively organize work, determine priorities, including the ability to make decisions and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • Discretion and good judgment in dealing with sensitive and personal information with ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills including the ability to clearly explain policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, representatives of cooperating agencies and the general public
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly sit and walk; and frequently drive
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently work indoors and outdoors

Position is not eligible to receive benefits with exception to the 457 Plan as listed below.

Savings Plan - Deferred Compensation

The County offers a Section 457 Plan. Deferred compensation plans allow participants to save for retirement now and pay taxes later by contributing a portion of their salaries pre-tax to the plan. Contributions are invested at the employee's direction into one or more of the variety of investment options offered by the plan. Changes may be made to the contribution levels, investment options, etc. at any time.
