Job summary

County of San Benito in California is seeking an entry-level seasonal support staffer for the Elections Office. Incumbents learn to perform a variety of support assignments, under close supervision, across programs within the Elections Department.

The position involves assisting with voter education, polling place logistics, supplies, ballot processing, data entry, and public inquiries. Weekend/evening work is required during peak election periods; a California driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

• Two years of responsible clerical, office, and general administrative support work experience OR one year of general work experience AND an Associate degree from an accredited college or university OR a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Elections related experience OR Elections administration certification is strongly desired.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Assist with recruiting locations for polling places, training classes, distribution and return centers, ballot drop-off sites, and voting centers.
• Assist with voter education and outreach events.
• Assist with preparation, distribution, and pickup of supplies for polling places, outreach events, training classes, and other election events.
• Process voted ballots, including opening and flattening, damaged ballot duplication, sorting manual ballot tallying, and machine tabulation.
• Sort, batch, and prepare voter registration forms and other election-related documents for data entry and processing.
• Answer inquiries and provide information to the public about elections and voter registration in person, in writing, and by telephone.
• Perform data entry of voter registration and election information in the election management system.
