Job summary

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Texas, or eligibility for reciprocal/in-house admission.
  • 2–5 years of relevant legal experience, including litigation in state and federal court.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear guidance for non-lawyers.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and maintain discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice on Texas and federal election law, the Texas Election Code, and party rules.
  • Assist with representation of TDP in litigation and appeals.
  • Track legislative and litigation developments; translate analysis into practical guidance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, vendor agreements, and policies.
  • Respond to open records requests, subpoenas, and inquiries.
  • Train County Chairs, election workers, and staff on legal compliance during elections.
  • Support internal employment, governance, and risk-management matters.
