Job summary

Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) is seeking a full-time Elder Law/General Practice Staff Attorney in our Nanuet, New York office to serve low-income individuals and vulnerable populations.

The attorney will handle Elder Law, Housing, Public Benefits, and related civil matters, with opportunities to advocate, educate the community, and collaborate with partners. After probation, remote work up to two days per week may be possible.

Qualifications

• Admission to NY State Bar or eligibility for NY admission; pro hac vice status allowed.
• 1+ year of legal experience including litigation and handling high-volume caseload.
• Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced, client-centered legal services environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide representation in Elder Law and general civil practice.
• Represent clients in administrative hearings, state and federal courts, and appellate proceedings as needed.
• Maintain a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.
• Conduct consultations, advocacy, negotiation, and litigation for eligible clients.
• Participate in community legal education, outreach, and training for seniors and caregivers.
• Collaborate with community organizations to address legal needs of older adults.
• Adhere to program priorities and funder requirements; maintain highest ethical standards.
• Serve as a resource to staff and partners across the service area.
