Job summary

Capital Area Intermediate Unit seeks a dedicated ESL program specialist to remediate and guide English Learners, collaborating with teachers and families to promote student success. The role focuses on data-driven MTSS, targeted reading and math interventions, and coordinating referrals within state guidelines.

Responsibilities include delivering remedial instruction, maintaining data for stakeholders, and supporting IEP processes for ELs in collaboration with school staff and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Master's preferred.
• Active Pennsylvania ESL Program Specialist Certificate PK-12 and PA Instructional I or II certification in Elementary Education, Special Education, and/or Reading Specialist.

Responsibilities

• Promote communication among students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other educational specialists.
• Develop a remedial program to fit student needs.
• Establish procedures for student referrals and ensure compliance with state/federal guidelines.
• Demonstrate MTSS data analysis, instruction adjustment, progress monitoring, and decision making.
• Implement targeted interventions in reading and/or math.
• Collaborate with staff and families to identify needs and coordinate supports.
• Serve on student support team as needed.
• Schedule delivery of programs and services.
• Deliver remedial instruction to address learning needs.
• Act as liaison between students, teachers, staff, and families.
• Determine entry/exit for ELD based on criteria.
• Notify parents about assessment results and progress.
• Maintain data on students for stakeholders.
• Plan and deliver lessons based on best practices.
• Conduct effective assessments of language proficiency and learning.
• Modify materials and share with teachers.
• Maintain communication with families of ELs.
• Monitor reclassified ELs' achievement.
• Participate in IEP prep for ELs.
• Provide resources to staff to promote cultural understanding.
• Prepare schedules, lesson plans, and supervisory information.
• Maintain substitute information and current lesson plans.
• Comply with host facility protocols and rules.
• Take other duties as assigned by supervisor or director.
• Assume other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
