Omaha Public Schools Gateway Elementary in Omaha, Nebraska is seeking a part-time English Learner (EL) Paraprofessional for a temporary role starting January 2027. The position supports classroom teachers, monitors student progress, and assists with instruction.

The paraprofessional assists with data collection, records, and supervision during lunch and recess, with a 5.50 hour daily schedule, Monday through Friday, non-exempt.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 48 semester hours or demonstrated proficiency to assist in instruction of reading, writing and mathematics via competency test.
• Ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
• Ability to speak another language preferred, not required.
• Maintain high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps and reach overhead.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Model appropriate behaviors for students.
• Develop and maintain a professional rapport with classroom teachers and staff.
• Assist students at arrival and dismissal of school.
• Assist in supervision during lunch and recess periods.
• Assist with grading and reviewing homework as instructed by the teacher.
• Monitor student performance and progress by collecting data and maintaining records.
