Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), rhythm strips, and other cardiac diagnostic tests for inpatient and outpatient populations, ensuring accurate records within 30 minutes of requests.
• Prioritizing test requests and responding promptly to stat requests to support efficient patient care.
• Reviewing findings from electrode positions at the time of the EKG, noting deviations for physician interpretation.
• Assisting in cardiac stress testing within the CardioDynamics Stress Lab.
• Applying Holter monitors and Signal-Averaged EKGs with patient instructions.
• Documenting all completed EKGs daily in the departmental log and EKG management system.
• Maintaining and troubleshooting department equipment and notifying leadership of maintenance needs.

A typical day for an EKG Technician II may include:

• Performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), rhythm strips, and other cardiac diagnostic tests for inpatient and outpatient populations, ensuring accurate records are captured within 30 minutes of all requests.


• Prioritizing test requests and responding promptly to stat requests to support efficient patient care and clinical workflow.


• Reviewing findings from each electrode position at the time of the EKG, recognizing deviations from normal to ensure timely and accurate chart records for physician interpretation.


• Assisting in the performance of cardiac stress testing within the CardioDynamics Stress Lab.


• Applying Holter monitors and Signal‑Averaged EKGs accurately while providing patients with clear instructions regarding testing and device use.


• Documenting and recording all completed EKGs daily in both the departmental log and the electronic EKG management system to support continuity of care.


• Providing age‑appropriate care by assessing data reflective of each patient's status and interpreting information to identify specific health care needs for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.


• Maintaining, inspecting, and troubleshooting department equipment and machines, and promptly notifying leadership of maintenance needs, repairs, or stock that needs replacing.


• Adhering strictly to Standard Precautions, safety policies, infection control protocols, and incident reporting procedures to maintain a safe, clean patient and work environment.


• Ensuring all practices align with corporate compliance guidelines and meet the rigorous accreditation and licensure standards of the New Jersey Department of Health (NJSDOH) and the Joint Commission (JCAHO).


• Acting in an ethical and legal manner at all times, ensuring all clinical actions are in the best interest of both the patients and the hospital.


• Collaborating closely with physicians, staff, patients, and visitors to deliver coordinated, exceptional customer service care.
