Job Summary And Qualifications

According to unit and hospital policies and procedures, the EKG Technician is responsible for the performance of non-invasive cardiovascular procedures. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while also promoting optimal unit operations and acting as a preceptor. The EKG Technician practices superior guest relation skills while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment.

General Responsibilities
  • Performs non-invasive, diagnostic, cardiology procedures.
  • Transports patients to and from department as needed to complete their procedure.
  • Assists with the lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients.
  • Orders, delivers, and retrieves equipment and supplies to maintain optimal unit functions.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of all of the equipment utilized in the unit.
  • Identifies life-threatening arrhythmias and/or rhythm/rate change and communicates them to the physician and/or RN in an expedient manner.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing the following EKG procedures: 12-18 lead EKG, Signal-Average EKG, Pediatric EKG, and Rhythm Strip evidenced by physician satisfaction
  • Documents accurate, complete, and requested information on each exam.
  • Demonstrates a working-knowledge of pertinent anatomical and physiological functions.
  • Ensures that reports are completed and on charts within 24 hours of exam completion and enters procedural charge into computer system.
  • Assists physicians with completion of examinations/studies.
  • Participates in maintaining a safe environment.
  • Takes appropriate action to prevent or manage accidents in the area.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use equipment safely and properly.
  • Recognizes items that require repair and initiates the proper steps required to remedy the issue.
  • Adheres to safety guidelines.
  • Participates in unit activities and meets educational requirements.
  • Maintains adequate levels of department supplies and utilizes supplies in an efficient manner.
  • Identifies individual responsibilities in maintaining unit operation.
  • Participates in process improvement activities for the assigned unit.
  • Attends departmental staff meetings and inservices.
  • Attends all mandatory facility meetings and inservices and completes annual mandatory education.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with work schedule to meet the needs of the department.
  • Maintains current BLS.
  • Performs other assignments as directed by the Supervisor and/or Director.
  • Interacts using professional, open communication.
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family.
  • Communicates with patient/family with a variety of developmental and socio-cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintains professional relationships and conveys relevant information to other members of the healthcare team.
  • Initiates communication with team members about clinical priorities for care.
  • Initiates problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with peers.
  • Relays information appropriately over telephone, pagers, and other communication devices.
