Job summary

St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, part of St. David’s HealthCare, is seeking an EP Lab Registered Nurse to provide professional care for adult and geriatric patients undergoing diagnostic/interventional cardiac procedures.

The RN will assist with monitoring, medication administration, patient assessment, and procedure documentation, while ensuring safety and compliance within the Cath Lab team.

Qualifications

• ACLs certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• BLS/Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• NIH Stroke Scale certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
• RN licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse.
• Associate degree in nursing or related field.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in the Cath Lab.
• Demonstrated ability to operate Cath Lab equipment.
• Ability to perform functions to support departmental operations.

Responsibilities

• Manage patients with suspected cardiac disease during diagnostic/interventional procedures.
• Assess patients appropriately by age and condition.
• Monitor and document patient status before, during, and after procedures.
• Administer medications and monitor responses.
• Communicate patient changes to physicians promptly.
• Proficient in using Meditech to retrieve patient data.
• Maintain radiation safety precautions.
• Assist with orientation for new employees and students.
• Maintain narcotic counts per hospital policy.
• Perform TEE, CVN, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Bubble Studies under physician supervision.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The EP Lab Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Cath Lab Supervisor, Cardiovascular Manager, and Cardiovascular services director, is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adult and geriatric patients with a broad range of illnesses, admission/assessment of patients, medication administration, direct and indirect patient care, circulating diagnostic and interventional cases, scrubbing diagnostic/interventional procedures, and procedure documentation/hemodynamic monitoring. Other departmental duties as assigned, such as: ordering supplies/maintaining inventory, providing appropriate information towards future needs and actively supports process improvement within the Cardiovascular Department. The RN maintains an active marketing profile for the facility/physicians and maintains professional standards and seeks professional growth. The RN practices in accordance with organizational medical staff directives, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Cardiovascular Department and the Heart Hospital of Austin at Round Rock Medical Center.

What you will do:

• Manage the patient with suspected/documented history of cardiac disease undergoing diagnostic/interventional procedures.


• Complete and document assessment appropriate to Age/patient condition.


• Reassess and document patient condition according to policy and patient condition


• Administer medications; monitor and document response


• Monitor patient’s overall status throughout pre, during, and post-procedure care


• Immediately communicates patient changes to physician.


• Demonstrate proficiency in managing patients with a potentially life-threatening dysrhythmia or hemodynamic change via a physician order by using medications and emergency equipment including but not limited to:


• Defibrillator, Dopamine, NTG, IABP, Ventilator


• Explain procedure to patient and assess patients understanding prior to start of procedure


• Enter patient demographic data


• Adhere to radiation safety precautions


• Safely defibrillate, cardiovert and pace using pacer-defibrillator


• Serve as liaison between patient, physician and other departments to optimize patient care and efficiency


• Schedule procedures correctly, including entering reservations


• Proficiently use Meditech to retrieve pertinent patient data


• Monitor patients in CPRU as designated by Supervisor


• Enter charges into Meditech as required


• Assist with department PI activities as assigned


• Assist with orientation for new employees and students as assigned


• Maintain Narcotic count on a daily basis with adherence to hospital policies


• Perform TEE, CVN, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Bubble Studies, and other studies with/under the supervision of a physician in CPRU or other units as required.
