Job summary

Lincoln Park Public Schools is seeking an EI Elementary Teacher 3-5 - Special Education for Beacon School. The role requires Michigan EI certification and a valid teaching certificate, with experience in center-based settings and with emotionally impaired students.

The position reports to the Executive Director of Staff and Student Services and follows the district calendar. Salary is per the LPEA Master Agreement and includes collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • MI Special Education EI certification required.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with proper endorsements.
  • Experience in center based program preferred.
  • Experience working with students with Emotional Impairments preferred.
  • Must meet North Central requirements for this position.
  • Compliance with MCL 380.1531 and certification rules required.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt and modify curricula, pedagogy and environments for students.
  • Align student programs with general education curriculum.
  • Develop and evaluate individualized behavior plans with the team.
  • Use functional goals to guide instruction and assessment.
  • Employ current assessment tools and trauma-informed interventions.
  • Lead classroom instruction and collaborate with multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain required special education documentation and timelines.
  • Communicate with school and community as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification (Emotionally Impaired -SE certification)
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with proper endorsements
  • Experience in a center based program preferred
  • Experience working with students with Emotional Impairments preferred
  • Must meet North Central requirements for this position
  • Must meet MCL 380.1531 & Administrative Rules Governing the Certification of MI Teachers

DUTIES
  • Adapt, accommodate, and modify the general education curricula, pedagogy, and learning environments for students.
  • Align and adapt the student's program with the general education curriculum
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized behavior management strategies and plans. Must, in conjunction with the students team, prepare and implement behavior plans based upon functional behavioral assessments.
  • Use a range of curriculum guides to assist with identifying functional goals.
  • Employ current assessment instruments and approaches, intervention methodologies, strategies, and techniques that are appropriate for students linking assessment outcomes to curriculum planning.
  • Use appropriate technology tools
  • Implement trauma-informed/resiliency based strategies & interventions
  • Implement building wide PBIS
  • Case manager for special education paperwork
  • Maintain compliance with special education timelines and required paperwork and documentation
  • Communicate to all members of the school & community as appropriate
  • Meet the physical and mental demands of the teaching profession and the position
  • Maintain a philosophy in accordance with Lincoln Park Public Schools
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Follow directions of administrators
  • Provide classroom instruction and serve as the instructional leader for meeting the needs of Special Education students
