Job summary

AUSTIN TRI-HAWK AUTOMOTIVE INC is seeking an EHST Manager to leader all environmental, health, safety, and training programs at the Austin, IN facility. You will partner with plant leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous safety improvements.

Responsibilities include managing inspections, incident investigations, training, and environmental reporting while fostering a culture of safety and accountability across all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive EHST/EHS experience, preferably in automotive manufacturing.
• ISO-14001 experience and education.
• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations applicable to manufacturing operations.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Experience in developing and delivering employee safety training.
• Strong understanding of industrial safety programs and risk assessment methodologies.
• Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of an organization.

• Serve as the primary EHST resource for employees, supervisors, managers, and leadership.
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, state environmental and occupational safety regulations, and local requirements.
• Maintain required permits, registrations, records, reports, and regulatory documentation.
• Monitor changes in applicable regulations and communicate requirements to plant leadership.
• Coordinate regulatory inspections and serve as the primary point of contact for applicable governmental agencies.
• Ensure timely completion of required environmental reporting, including applicable air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, and chemical reporting requirements.

Responsibility

The EHST Assistant Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Training programs for the automotive manufacturing facility. This position provides direction and hands-on leadership to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a strong safety culture and continuous improvement throughout the plant.

The EHST Manager partners closely with Plant Leadership, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, Quality, and employees at all levels to identify and mitigate risks, reduce workplace injuries and environmental impacts, and ensure employees are properly trained to perform their jobs safely and effectively.

Supports (ATA) efforts to promote Corporate Social Responsibility, (CSR) and ensure activities are carried out in cooperation with G-TEKT CSR, and Corporate Governance initiatives and activities to ensure compliance in functional areas of responsibility. Support the Corporate Governance Policy of Austin Tri-Hawk Automotive and the Objectives of:

• Enhancing the trust of ATA among customers, associates, and society.


• Implementing activities to improve ATA business operations using the strategy of Steady Compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.

• Lead programs addressing machine guarding, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, ergonomics, powered industrial trucks, confined spaces, fall protection, hazardous energy, PPE, contractor safety, and emergency preparedness.


• Partner with Engineering and Maintenance during equipment installation, modification, and process changes to ensure appropriate safety controls are incorporated.


• Participate in Management of Change activities and pre-startup safety reviews.


• Conduct and/or facilitate Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Process Hazard Assessments as appropriate.


• Review incidents, near misses, and safety observations to identify root causes and systemic corrective actions.


• Lead incident investigations using structured root-cause analysis methodologies.

Injury and Incident Management

• Ensure prompt response to workplace injuries, illnesses, near misses, and other incidents.


• Lead investigations and establish corrective actions to prevent recurrence.


• Oversee workers' compensation claims and partner with HR and medical providers on return-to-work and transitional-duty programs.


• Analyze injury trends and develop target improvement initiatives.


• Promote proactive reporting of hazards, near misses, and safety concerns.

Environmental Management

• Manage the facility's environmental compliance programs and ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of regulated materials and waste.


• Monitor environmental aspects associated with manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to reduce environmental impacts.


• Coordinate required environmental sampling, testing, inspections, and reporting.


• Support pollution prevention, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and sustainability initiatives.


• Maintain environmental procedures and records necessary to support regulatory compliance and customer requirements.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

• Develop, maintain, and test the plant's emergency response and business continuity programs.


• Coordinate emergency response procedures for fire, chemical releases, severe weather, medical emergencies, spills, and other potential events.


• Coordinate emergency drills and evaluate results for continuous improvement.


• Maintain emergency response equipment and ensure employees receive appropriate training.


• Maintain relationships with local emergency response organizations and first responders.

Training and Employee Development

• Develop and manage the plant's EHST training program.


• Ensure employees receive required initial, refresher, and job-specific training.


• Maintain training matrices and records and monitor completion.

• Work with frontline employees to identify practical solutions to safety and environmental concerns.


• Build a culture in which safety is integrated into daily production activities rather than treated as a separate function.

Audit and Continuous Improvement

• Conduct internal EHST audits and compliance assessments.


• Coordinate customer, corporate, third-party, and regulatory audits.


• Develop corrective action plans and ensure timely closure of findings.


• Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies where appropriate.


• Benchmark EHST performance against industry best practices.


• Identify opportunities to improve safety, environmental performance, employee engagement, and operational efficiency.

Contractor and Visitor Safety

• Establish and maintain contractor safety requirements.


• Review contractor qualifications, safety programs, and required documentation.


• Ensure contractors receive appropriate site-specific EHST orientation.


• Monitor contractor activities for compliance with plant requirements.


• Coordinate safety requirements for construction, installation, maintenance, and other non-routine activities.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel and work in various positions for long periods (8–12 hours)


• Ability to lift and move tooling components and materials as required, 25–50 lbs. regularly.


• Ability to work around manufacturing equipment, presses, machining equipment, and industrial environments.


• Constant exposure to noise, machinery, and industrial conditions


• PPE required (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots)
