Job summary

ofi North America (Olam Food Ingredients) is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor for the Lenoir City site. Reporting to the operations manager and Safety function leader, you will manage the EHS program, train staff, and drive a safety-first culture across all plant activities.

You will lead incident investigations, coordinate audits, and collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, HR and plant leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years in health and safety, or 7+ years of health/safety experience in lieu of a degree.
• Proven knowledge of OSHA/TOSHA, federal and state regulations, inspections, investigations, and hazard analysis.
• Ability to respond to off-hour incidents and coach culture change.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; TN residency may be required.
• English and Spanish bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage EHS program to ensure a safe, accident-free workplace and mentor colleagues.
• Partner with plant leadership to pursue zero injuries and world-class safety performance.
• Plan and deliver training for managers, supervisors, and employees on safe work behaviors.
• Lead continuous improvement for safety and industrial hygiene gaps via audits and inspections.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to implement controls and reduce hazards.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard assessments, and close corrective actions.
• Develop plant safety policies to meet regulatory requirements (TOSHA/OSHA, state and local).
• Analyze safety data to identify trends and prevent incidents.
• Oversee incident investigations and drive timely corrective actions.
• Support safety meetings and safety committees; communicate expectations widely.
• Coordinate EHS training, including new hire orientation, hazard communication, PPE, and lockout/tagout.
• Support dust, housekeeping, fire prevention, chemical handling, and hot work programs.
• Ensure records comply with Tennessee and federal regulations; maintain SDS and logs.
• Assist environmental teams with regulatory records and permit requirements.
• Support sustainability initiatives and workers’ compensation/RTW programs.
• Collaborate with healthcare, HR, and leaders on treatment planning and safe return-to-work.

Position Summary

Reporting to the operations manager, with a dotted line into the Safety function leader, the Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor will be responsible for managing health and safety within the Lenoir City, Tennessee site ensuring a safe, accident-free workplace. The Environmental, Health and Safety Supervisor will train managers, supervisors and employees on best practice workplace safety. They will inspect the organization’s facilities, complete root cause analysis and make recommendations to monitor and ensure sustainability of corrective actions. The safety supervisor will work cross-functionally to address and mitigate safety concerns and foster an inclusive safety-first work culture.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and well-versed in health and safety initiatives and regulations. They will lead and influence the safety culture of all employees. Ability to handle multiple competing demands in a fast-paced environment is critical for success.

Position Responsibilities

• Manage EHS program to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment and provide coaching and mentoring to colleagues.
• Work with plant management to develop a safety roadmap to zero injuries and world-class safety performance.
• Plan and deliver programs to train managers, supervisors and employees on safe work behaviors.
• Leads continuous improvement initiatives for health, safety, and industrial hygiene compliance gaps identified through corporate audits, internal audits, third party audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Partners with Plant Maintenance and Engineering to implement engineering controls and minimize safety and occupational hazards.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, hazard assessments, behavioral observations, and follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely closure.
• Establish plant health and safety policies/procedures to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, Tennessee, TOSHA, and local regulatory requirements.
• Work cross-functionally to analyze safety situations and recommend improvements.
• Analyze incident data to identify trends and incident types that can be prevented.
• Oversee the incident investigation process to determine root cause and timely corrective action.
• Participate in incident, injury, near miss, first aid, and return-to-work reviews; document findings; support root cause analysis; and track corrective actions to closure.
• Drive safety culture on the plant floor through partnerships with all departments.
• Facilitate safety meetings or safety committee activities and help local leaders communicate safety expectations consistently.
• Develop and coordinate required EHS training, including new hire orientation, contractor safety, hazard communication, PPE, emergency response, lockout/tagout awareness, forklift or powered industrial truck coordination, and other role-specific requirements.
• Support combustible dust, housekeeping, fire prevention, chemical handling, hot work, equipment safety, and industrial sanitation programs relevant to coffee roasting and packaging operations.
• Coordinate compliance with TOSHA requirements, including employee safety training, hazard communication, injury and illness prevention practices, and timely reporting of workplace fatalities, inpatient hospitalizations, amputations, or loss of an eye as required by applicable law.
• Ensure all safety records are kept in accordance with applicable State of Tennessee and Federal regulations, including TOSHA/OSHA logs, injury and illness recordkeeping, incident reporting, and training documents.
• Maintain SDS information, EHS inspection logs, training files, incident documentation, and compliance calendars.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental, safety and health regulatory considerations. Is accountable for the work of others, and responsible for their understanding and compliance.
• Support Plant Manager and Corporate environmental teams in maintaining applicable environmental records and compliance with federal, State of Tennessee, and local environmental regulations and permit requirements.
• Support environmental compliance activities as assigned, including waste handling, spill prevention, recycling, stormwater, or air-permit related documentation where applicable.
• Responsible for the environmental calendar and ensuring all tasks/permits/audits are executed timely.
• Support site sustainability initiatives and related improvement plans as assigned.
• Oversee the Workers’ Compensation and Employee Return to Work (RTW) programs in coordination with HR and in alignment with Tennessee workers’ compensation requirements and company policy.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, HR, and plant leadership to support treatment planning, modified duty, and safe return-to-work outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of health, safety or combination of experiences or seven (7) years of health/safety experience in lieu of a degree
• Applied knowledge and working understanding of OSHA/TOSHA, Tennessee and federal regulatory compliance, experience with inspections, incident investigations, remediation, process safety, contractor safety, safety training, hazard reviews, and job analysis
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required. If relocating from another state, required to obtain a Tennessee driver’s license no later than thirty (30) days after establishing Tennessee residency.
• Ability to respond to off-hour incidents as needed
• Ability to coach Culture Change teams/events
• Good organizational skills with an ability to effectively prioritize
• Ability to build effective relationships resulting in a safe workplace
• English and Spanish language bilingual preferred
