Position Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing environmental compliance programs and supporting facility health and safety initiatives at a manufacturing operation in the Peru/LaSalle, Illinois area. This role serves as the site's primary environmental compliance resource, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations while supporting the site's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
The successful candidate will have strong expertise in air permitting and compliance, wastewater and stormwater management, hazardous waste regulations, and environmental reporting. The position also provides leadership and support for occupational safety programs to maintain compliance with OSHA standards and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance (Primary Focus)
- Maintain and continuously improve the site's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Serve as the facility environmental subject matter expert for compliance with:
- Industrial wastewater programs
- Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste regulations
- Manage environmental permits, inspections, monitoring, recordkeeping, and regulatory reporting.
- Conduct environmental compliance audits and assessments to identify gaps and corrective actions.
- Coordinate air emissions calculations, monitoring activities, and annual environmental reports.
- Oversee hazardous waste management, storage, labeling, accumulation areas, and disposal activities.
- Manage environmental contractors, laboratories, and waste disposal vendors.
- Support regulatory agency inspections and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and local regulators.
- Investigate environmental incidents, spills, permit exceedances, or compliance concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Track environmental performance metrics and communicate results to site leadership.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Support site compliance with applicable OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and behavioral observations.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Support programs involving:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Contractor Safety
- Emergency Response
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
- Participate in safety committees and promote a strong safety culture throughout the facility.
- Lead environmental improvement projects that reduce risk, waste generation, emissions, and resource consumption.
- Drive employee engagement through training, awareness campaigns, and environmental stewardship initiatives.
- Maintain EHS documentation, procedures, records, and management system requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams.
- Support sustainability and corporate EHS initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Occupational Safety, or another related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing, chemical, industrial, or process industry environment.
- Demonstrated expertise with:
- Title V Air Permitting and Compliance
- Wastewater Management
- Stormwater Compliance Programs
- SPCC Programs
- Hazardous Waste Management and RCRA Regulations
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational safety programs.
- Strong understanding of federal and Illinois environmental regulations.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS recordkeeping systems.
Preferred
- Environmental professional certification or safety certification (CHMM, CSP, CIH, REM, or equivalent).
- Experience supporting chemical, metals, building products, food processing, or heavy manufacturing operations.
- Experience managing environmental audits and regulatory inspections.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to conduct inspections throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and accessing production areas.
