Our team is passionate about advancing battery technology and energy storage systems that power industries and communities around the world.Your ImpactAs a Senior EHS Specialist, you will serve as a subject matter expert and trusted partner in creating and maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace within our lead-acid battery manufacturing facility. Leveraging your experience and technical expertise, you will lead safety initiatives, mentor employees and supervisors, support regulatory compliance efforts, and drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.This role requires a highly visible presence on the manufacturing floor and a proactive approach to risk identification, employee engagement, and incident prevention. The Senior EHS Specialist serves as a key resource for operational leaders and assists in strengthening Sunlight's safety culture at all levels of the organization.What You'll DoLead the implementation and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs across the facility.Serve as a subject matter expert on OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulatory requirements.Conduct comprehensive safety audits, inspections, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments.Lead investigations involving workplace injuries, near misses, environmental incidents, and property damage events.Analyze trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk and improve performance.Develop and facilitate employee and leadership training programs covering hazard communication, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, PPE, chemical safety, emergency response, and powered industrial trucks.Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation strategies.Coordinate chemical safety programs, SDS management, spill prevention efforts, and hazardous materials handling practices.Support industrial hygiene initiatives, lead monitoring programs, and environmental compliance activities associated with lead-acid battery manufacturing.Assist in maintaining permits, compliance records, regulatory reporting, and audit documentation.Lead emergency preparedness activities, response planning, and facility drills.Mentor less experienced EHS professionals and support cross-functional safety initiatives.Monitor key performance indicators and provide recommendations to leadership based on data-driven insights.Support workers' compensation and return-to-work programs.Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen safety performance and environmental stewardship.What You'll BringBachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Five or more years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, battery manufacturing, metals manufacturing, or other highly regulated industrial environments.Advanced knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental compliance requirements.Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations, audits, root cause analyses, and corrective action programs.Experience developing and delivering technical safety training programs.Strong knowledge of chemical safety, hazardous materials management, industrial hygiene, and emergency response.Proven ability to influence and coach employees and leaders at all organizational levels.Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and EHS management systems.Preferred QualificationsCSP, ASP, OHST, CHMM, or similar professional certification.HAZWOPER certification.Experience within battery manufacturing or other heavy industrial operations.Experience supporting ISO-based management systems.Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
