Job summary

Belcan is seeking a proactive EHS professional to maintain a safe, compliant workplace across manufacturing operations in Somerville, MA. You will lead risk assessments, incident investigations, and environmental programs, partnering with engineering and operations to drive hazard reduction.

You will advance OSHA/EPA/RCRA compliance, manage SDS databases and hazardous waste areas, and deliver training while supporting continuous improvement and Good Catch initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
• 3–5 years of EHS experience in manufacturing, R&D, or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry, EPA, RCRA, and industrial hygiene principles.
• Hands-on experience partnering with engineering on equipment modifications and safety improvements.
• Experience with hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.

Job Summary:

This position will play a key role in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace by conducting risk assessments, leading incident investigations, managing environmental programs, and partnering closely with engineering and operations teams to identify and eliminate workplace hazards.

Responsibilities:

Conduct risk assessments and hazard reviews for new equipment, processes, and operations.

Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for site injuries, equipment damage, chemical spills, and high-potential near-misses.

Manage site chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) databases.

Oversee satellite accumulation areas, hazardous waste storage areas, and third-party waste disposal manifests.

Conduct routine EHS inspections and audits to ensure regulatory and site compliance.

Manage and support a proactive EHS reporting/Good Catch program, partnering with operations teams to identify hazards and drive corrective actions to completion.

Prioritize engineering and physical controls when addressing workplace hazards.

Support operational teams with Test Readiness Reviews, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and other safe work planning processes.

Develop and deliver EHS onboarding, annual compliance training, and site-specific safety training.

Partner with engineering teams on equipment modifications, ergonomic improvements, machine safety upgrades, and other hazard-reduction initiatives.

Support industrial hygiene assessments and exposure monitoring as needed.

Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site EHS programs.

Maintain accurate EHS documentation and records.

Provide hands‑on support for a variety of safety and environmental initiatives across the facility.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

3–5 years of EHS experience supporting a manufacturing, R&D, laboratory, or similar industrial environment.

Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry, EPA, RCRA, and industrial hygiene principles.

Previous experience working in a construction, manufacturing, or industrial environment.

Hands‑on experience partnering with engineering teams on equipment modifications, ergonomic redesigns, machine safety improvements, or similar projects.

Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.

Ability to work effectively in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong attention to detail and a hands‑on approach to workplace safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing hazardous waste programs and satellite accumulation areas.

Experience developing or implementing EHS programs and safety procedures.

Experience with industrial hygiene assessments and exposure monitoring.

Experience working in an R&D, laboratory, or advanced manufacturing environment.

Experience with proactive safety programs such as Good Catch/near-miss reporting.

Experience partnering with engineering and operations teams to implement engineering controls.
