Job summary

Prizer-Painter Stove Works, Inc. is seeking an EHS Specialist to direct occupational health and safety programs at the plant level and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in a manufacturing setting.

You will develop and monitor site policies, lead incident investigations, manage training, PPE and environmental programs, and report to management. A bachelor’s in safety/engineering or equivalent experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Engineering or related field preferred or equivalent experience in manufacturing.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills with the ability to interact at all levels.
• Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations and standards (OSHA, NFPA).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, implementing, monitoring and supporting EHS policies and programs at the plant level.
• Provide regular support to maintain compliance with applicable EHS legislation, permits and standards.
• Investigate incidents including near-misses to identify root causes and mitigate hazards.
• Assist in managing and reporting incidents and adherence to the reporting process.
• Collaborate to evaluate hazardous conditions and implement hazard control programs.
• Monitor and manage PPE programs and supplies.
• Maintain and share incident/accident reporting and statistics.
• Oversee environmental programs/procedures and reporting (hazardous waste, SWPPP, air permits).
• Manage training programs and track completion; provide EHS training for new employees.
• Participate in cost-control efforts and safety-related committees.
• Conduct safety training such as forklift and respirator fit-tests; perform safety inspections.
• Provide monthly/quarterly reports to management; maintain training documentation.
• Perform safety and environmental audits and address potential hazards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The EHS Specialist will work closely with management in directing occupational health and safety programs at the plant level while ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and standards. Must be able to provide support to departments to take a proactive approach to ensure compliance. As a team member there will be an equal level of accountability, along with the management team, in promoting and accomplishing the health and safety initiatives at the plant level.

• Assist in the developing, implementing, monitoring and supporting site EHS policies/programs/procedures to protect the health and safety or employees, and the environment
• Provide regular support to maintain compliance with applicable EHS legislation, permits and standards.
• Work with management and others on the investigation of incidents, including “near-misses” to identify root causes and the appropriate management/mitigation of hazards
• Assist in managing and ensuring proper reporting of incidents, and adherence to Incident Investigation Reporting Process.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others to evaluate hazardous conditions and practices, including managing JHAs to develop and implement hazard control practices and programs.
• Monitor and assist in managing PPE programs and supplies.
• Maintain and share incident/accident reporting and statistics.
• Assist in overseeing environmental programs/procedures and reporting, including hazardous waste, regulatory reporting, SWPPP, air permit requirements and air and wastewater discharges if applicable.
• Manage training programs and activities, including documentation and tracking of completion rates, assignment matrixes as well as arranging for supplemental activities as necessary.
• Provide EHS training for new employees as part of the on-boarding process.
• To ensure efficiency, participate in cost-control efforts, manufacturing improvement committees, and the like.
• Conduct safety training such as forklift, respirator fit-tests and the like.
• Conduct department safety inspections on a routine basis, including regular/daily walk rounds.
• Provide monthly/quarterly reports to management.
• Maintain weekly/monthly safety training documentation.
• Perform safety and environmental audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and address potential hazards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred or equivalent years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
