Job summary

Carpenter Co. in Mt. Airy, NC is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager to partner with Plant Operations, R&D and leadership to identify hazards, conduct risk assessments and deliver safety training.

The role requires implementing policies, ensuring OSHA/EPA compliance, managing workers' compensation and incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or science related field.
• At least 5 years of health and safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, chemical, or automotive environment.
• Experience with OSHA standards and safety management systems.
• Incident investigation experience.
• Knowledge of Federal and State Safety/Health Laws (e.g. OSHA).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
• Professional certification (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.
• Experience in managing Worker's Compensation claims preferred.

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, local regulations and safety standards.
• Manage air, water and waste permitting compliance.
• Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses and safety audits.
• Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Provide safety orientation to new hires and temporary staff.
• Oversee Worker’s Compensation program and claims administration.
• Develop and modify safety plans for continuous improvement.
