Job summary

SP Associates in Myrtle Beach, SC is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the facility's EHS strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance and a proactive safety culture across operations.

The role directs risk assessments, incident investigations, training, and the management of waste, air emissions, and environmental permitting, while partnering with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, QA and HR to embed safety into daily activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing.
  • 3+ years of EHS leadership or management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead safety initiatives to achieve zero injuries and improve safety performance.
  • Conduct risk assessments, JHAs, and process safety reviews.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and environmental events; implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and supervisors.
  • Manage hazardous waste, chemical safety, air emissions, wastewater, and permitting programs.
  • Monitor EHS KPIs and report to senior leadership.
  • Coordinate internal and external EHS audits and close corrective actions.
  • Support capital projects by ensuring EHS standards in design and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, QA and HR to integrate safety into operations.
  • Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work programs.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, permits, and regulatory records.
  • Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement through safety initiatives.

Job description

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance programs across the manufacturing facility. This role develops and implements EHS strategies that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture, reducing workplace risks, and supporting operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead safety initiatives to achieve zero injuries and improve overall safety performance.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and process safety reviews.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and environmental events; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and supervisors.
  • Manage hazardous waste, chemical safety, air emissions, wastewater, and environmental permitting programs.
  • Monitor key EHS performance indicators and prepare reports for senior leadership.
  • Lead emergency preparedness, fire protection, evacuation planning, and crisis response activities.
  • Coordinate internal and external EHS audits and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Support capital projects by ensuring compliance with EHS standards during design and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and HR to integrate safety into daily operations.
  • Manage workers' compensation cases and return-to-work programs.
  • Maintain all required EHS documentation, permits, and regulatory records.
  • Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement through safety committees and behavior-based safety initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of EHS leadership or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems is preferred.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS reporting systems.
