Job summary

AbbVie in Lake County, Illinois is seeking an EHS professional to provide day-to-day support to Operations-based functions, partnering with leaders to manage EHS risks and ensure regulatory and AbbVie compliance.

You'll serve as the primary EHS partner, deliver practical guidance, perform risk assessments, support incident investigations, and lead or assist with training, inspections, and contractor safety, while maintaining key metrics to drive risk-reduction actions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, science, or related field.
• EHS experience in industrial, operational, laboratory, engineering or construction settings preferred.
• Knowledge of hot work, LOTO, heights, confined space and surface penetration.
• Experience with risk assessments, inspections, audits, investigations, training and corrective actions.
• Contractor and construction safety experience preferred.
• Ability to translate requirements into practical controls and build stakeholder relationships.
• EHS or engineering certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary EHS business partner for assigned Operations-based functions.
• Provide routine field presence, coaching, and practical EHS guidance to employees and leaders; identify hazards and implement controls.
• Apply knowledge of hot work, LOTO, heights, confined space and surface penetration to operations.
• Lead or support risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and change reviews to ensure hazards are controlled.
• Support compliance, inspections, audits, and regulatory readiness.
• Lead investigations and develop corrective actions with timely closure.
• Develop and deliver EHS training and communications to strengthen safe practices.
• Provide EHS support for contractors and construction activities with field oversight.
• Maintain EHS metrics and use data to drive risk-reduction actions.
