Job summary

NSF NOIRLab in Arizona is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator to support safety, occupational health, security, and environmental compliance across NOIRLab’s facilities. The role blends fieldwork, audits, and training within a distinctive scientific environment.

Travel to Kitt Peak National Observatory is required several days per week, with elevations up to 7,000+ feet. This hands-on position emphasizes collaboration with the Global EHS Team and researchers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Protection, Emergency Management, or closely related field with two years of experience.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and state, local, or tribal safety regulations.
• Experience in safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

• Perform EHS inspections, risk assessments, and ensure compliance across NOIRLab’s Arizona facilities.
• Review JHAs, work procedures, and safety controls before high‑risk activities.
• Maintain OSHA/NFPA compliance and update safety programs.
• Investigate incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate and deliver safety training for staff, volunteers, and contractors.
