Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY, seeks a Director of Environmental Health & Safety to lead the EHS department, oversee radiation, biosafety, chemical safety, fire safety, and hazmat programs, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

The role directs strategy, regulatory reporting, audits, training, and collaboration with Facilities and HR to integrate safety across campus operations; requires a bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of leadership in higher education EHS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
• 6+ years of directly related leadership experience in EHS.
• Safety certifications such as CSP, CHMM, CHO etc. preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strategic leadership and governance of the EHS program across campus.
• Direct regulatory compliance, audits, and agency liaison responsibilities.
• Oversee Academic, Laboratory & Specialized Safety operations.
• Manage environmental protection and hazardous material programs.
