Job summary

Ventura Foods is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety Assistant to support the EHS Manager in planning, implementing, and maintaining safety programs for our facility. You will work closely with plant personnel including supervisors and frontline staff to promote safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include assisting with OSHA/EPA compliance, training documentation, incident investigations, and daily rounds to identify hazards.

Qualifications

  • Associate-degree or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of one year of EHS experience preferred.
  • Proficient training delivery and documentation skills.

Position Summary:

To assist the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager in planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to ensure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. Works closely with plant personnel, including supervisors and employees.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with maintaining OSHA and EPA compliance with mandates from Corporate. Duties include planning and organizing training, conducting training, maintaining training documentation and certifications.
  • Assist with EHS program implementation and the use of EHS compliance applications. Assist with conducting accident investigations, reporting using company applications, assist with root cause analysis, corrective actions, focusing on incident reduction and working to meet and improve incident rates.
  • Help identify and evaluate hazardous conditions in the workplace, conduct and coordinate daily rounds to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counseling to employees, visitors and contractors for all compliance regulations.
  • Oversee regulatory inspections are completed, such as fire extinguishers, eyewash, and shower stations, area inspections, egress, and exit signs, environmental program inspections, and other regulatory inspections and audits. Conduct safety and hazardous material inspections and maintain inspection documents and verifications. Assist with environmental compliance reports, sampling, and any inspection mandates.
  • Assist in maintaining and executing site awareness and incentive programs, including corrective actions and tracking sustainability and utility reduction projects. Assist with maintenance of Safety Committee.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate-degree or equivalent, required.
  • A minimum of one year of EHS experience, preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proficient in training methodologies, curriculum development and soft skills (communication skills, critical thinking, time management, team building, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, planning, project management, problem resolution, communication, presentation, facilitation, and motivational skills required.
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • High energy, enthusiastic, motivational training style.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer literate with in-depth knowledge of MS office, web-based systems, and visual aids technology.

Annual bonus (based on the incentive program terms and conditions)

**The “base salary range” provided above is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position in the specified markets. Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography. Ventura Foods conducts regular reviews of compensation ranges and therefore reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.

All jobs require sufficient physical strength and dexterity to perform the required task(s)and typically also require at a minimum: intermittent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Typical shifts are 8-12 hours per day. Additional unscheduled time after hours and on weekends may also be required. Employees must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment as required by Company policy and/or legal requirements. In addition, certain jobs may require employees to:

  • Work outside and/or in adverse temperatures which could include extreme heat, cold, and humidity;
  • Be exposed to vibrations, chemicals used inoperations, fumes and food allergens (may include soy, dairy and other allergens); and
  • Be required to work in confined and dark spaces, and at heights in excess of 18 feet.
