Job summary

Overview

Position: EHR Specialist II

Schedule: Full Time

Pay Range: $20.00 - $24.00 / Hourly

Shift: Day shift

Hours: 7:30 - 4

Responsibilities
  • File, retrieve, prep, scan and index medical records accurately and in a timely manner into the OnBase electronic document management system to support patient care and legal/audit processes.
  • With attention to detail, examine pages, verify patient identification and bar codes on each page, appropriately batch documents, and ensure accurate scanning and indexing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Associate or bachelor degree in an AHIMA approved program in Health Information Technology preferred.
  • Experience: One year general office experience, preferably in a medical record department or clinical setting.
  • Licensure and/or Certification: RHIT preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and disease processes.
  • Strong computer skills to include MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); prior 3M Encoder and Meditech experience preferred.
  • Extensive use of office equipment including fax, copy machines, scanners.
  • Ability to work with detailed systems, computer applications and intradepartmental units.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO requirements and federal/state guidelines applicable to health record completeness and patient privacy.
  • Knowledge of health information systems and data management; health record content and sequence.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to use judgment in carrying out all phases of the work.
  • Ability to accept constructive analysis based on feedback from auditors and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to all phases of the work.
  • Ability to be courteous, tactful, and cooperative; ability to process and provide accurate paperwork and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and large amounts of data; ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with medical staff and hospital employees.
  • Subject to irregular hours occasionally.
