Job summary

Armstrong World Industries, Inc. in Marietta, PA seeks an EHS Specialist to provide safety and environmental technical and administrative support to the EHS Manager and the plant.

You will help foster a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance in a manufacturing environment. You’ll lead site EHS programs, prepare required reports for agencies, and collaborate with Operations, Engineering and HR to drive continuous improvement and environmental performance.

  • Effective communication skills, verbal, written and presentation.
  • Highly organized with the ability to complete multiple tasks.
  • Training, coaching and group facilitation skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Environmental and Safety Regulations.
  • Ability to lead through influence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee / supervisor level.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment and a robust safety culture.
  • Complete documents/reports required by local, state, and federal agencies in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Recordkeeping and retrieval of documentation in case of emergency, audit or as needed.
  • Assist with site safety and environmental compliance programs and requirements.
  • Identify and execute improvements in plant safety systems.
  • Take ownership of key safety improvement efforts; lead small teams or participate as a team member.
  • Maintain and update internal EHS tracking systems.
  • Participate in site safety committees/teams.
  • Assist in incident investigations and risk assessments; recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide EHS technical guidance for site project work.
  • Ensure on-site contractors comply with safety and environmental policies.

The estimated base salary range for this role is “$70,000 to $90,000” per year.
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

As our EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for providing safety and environmental technical and administrative support to the EHS Manager and the plant.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Be goal-oriented and comfortable working with a wide range of people on a variety of tasks.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee / supervisor level.

  • Be responsible for completing documents/reports required by local, state, and federal agencies in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Be responsible for recordkeeping and retrieval of documentation in the event of an emergency, audit, or as needed.
  • Assist with site safety and environmental compliance programs and requirements.
  • Identify & execute improvements in plant safety systems.
  • Take ownership of key safety improvement efforts as assigned; may be individual efforts, leading small teams, or participating as a team member on complex problems.
  • Maintain and update internal EHS tracking systems.
  • Participate in and support site safety committees/teams.
  • Assist in incident investigationsand risk assessments, recommends corrective actions.
  • Assist EHS Manager in updating plant safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide EHS technical guidance and assistance for site project work.
  • Ensure on-site contractors are compliant with safety and environmental policies requirements.
  • Participate in New Hire Safety Orientation and safety training.
  • Partners with Human Resources, Engineering and Production to improve EHS Management Systems.
  • Maintain working relationships with corporate EHS staff and applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Work with operations to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes and systems that lead to the reduction and prevention of safety and environmental incidents.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in a safety and/or environmental related field; professional certification(s) may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in the EHS field
  • Ability to work effectively with other departments in the development of EHS programs.
  • Must possess skills in Word, Excel, and Power Point.
