Job Description
Overview

Responsible for all overall coordination and implementation of environmental, health, safety and sustainability programs to assure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and site policies. Leads all safety improvements process activities for the facility in support of the Berry Global safety mission, policy and values. Provides professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of environmental health and safety programs.

Responsibilities
  • Plan the safety program in accordance with Federal OSHA (29 CFR 1900-1910 and 29 CFR 1926) and implement applicable provisions for regulatory guidelines for Tolleson. Conduct and/or monitor training programs for 29 CFR 1910, Subparts E,G,H,I,J,L,N,O,Q,S and Z. Comply with regulations and provisions pertaining to accident investigation, analysis and reporting. Investigate accidents in accordance with regulatory guidelines, determining cause and effect, suggest recommendations for corrective action to prevent recurrence. Report any accident of serious nature as defined by and in accordance with 29 CFR 1904. Maintain liaison with Federal, State and Local governmental agencies. Coordinate and monitor implementation of all applicable OSHA standards. Conduct inspections to determine non-compliance with applicable OSHA standards and initiate reports for corrective actions as required. Maintain an adequate follow up program for the purpose of: (a) identifying unusual and uncommon hazards which are beyond the ability of supervisors to identify; (b) provide inspection data that will allow assessment of the performance of supervisors in their assigned task of identifying and correcting hazards normally associated with their operations; (c) prepare written reports to managers and supervisors responsible for the operations and follow up to insure compliance. Evaluate progress on corrective measures.
  • Direct and administer special safety operations. Conduct work-site hazard analysis of operations and processes generated from requests of supervisors, accident cause studies, hazardous conditions discovered by preventative inspections and seasonal or unusual operations. Detect hazards involving procedures, equipment and machinery. Make recommendations and coordinate follow up with all levels of management to eliminate or effectively control the identified hazard. Conduct safety review of all plans and specifications of building construction, modification and lay out of operating facilities. Update safety standard operating procedures applicable to specific jobs. Provide the necessary safety leadership to maintain a climate of continuous safety improvement. Direct and administer the Safety Team. Train management and supervisors in the best practices of safety management. Purchase health and safety equipment that meet regulatory and safety standards.
  • Direct and administer the Workers Compensation Program. Responsible for data management, maintenance of occupational health records, workers' compensation records, preparation of correspondence and various safety inspection records. Conduct investigations of work-related injuries and illnesses to identify corrective actions to prevent recurrences. Determine whether the injury or illness is compensable through the workers' compensation program. Determine whether the injury or illness is "recordable" according to OSHA regulations. Direct and administer the return-to-work program for employees injured on the job.
  • Direct and administer the Ergonomic Program
  • Direct and administer the Environmental Protection Program in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Conduct monthly safety training.

  • Problem Solving/Conflict Resolution - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; mitigates relationship conflicts and encourages constructive (problem-solving) conflict.
Requirements
  • BS Degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred or 5-10 years experience.
  • Experience in industrial environment preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, EPA, and other government regulations.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred. Desired, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or other comparable certification or ability to obtain.
