Job summary

Ginkgo Bioworks seeks an Associate Director of EH&S to pilot comprehensive safety programs across sites, shaping regulatory compliance and practical hygiene standards. The role emphasizes hands-on leadership, scalable program creation, and cross-functional collaboration with Facilities and Management.

You will drive operational safety, develop training materials, and oversee committees to deploy global safety standards in a lean organizational structure.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree (BS/BA) in Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field.
• 4+ years of EH&S management experience in a lab or manufacturing setting.
• Experience creating and executing EH&S programs that engage employees.
• Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory controls.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage EH&S permits at Local, State, Federal levels including EPA/OSHA/USDA/Fire Departments.
• Lead development and maintenance of scalable EH&S programs across sites.
• Drive site safety improvements and measure performance with compliance metrics.
• Develop and deliver training materials via LMS, both in-person and online.
• Direct site EH&S committees and align with global safety standards.
• Coordinate expansion of EH&S programs to new facilities with lean team structure.
