Job summary

Amcor is seeking an EHS Coordinator to lead the environmental, health and safety program at the Phoenix site under the supervision of the EHS Manager.

You will develop safety programs, coordinate employee training, conduct risk assessments and manage OSHA recordkeeping while driving a culture of safety and compliance. The role requires bilingual English and Spanish communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to influence change at all levels of the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly accident summaries and assist with incident investigations.
  • Conduct safety training including new hire orientations and specialized courses (forklift, lockout, etc.).
  • Perform daily safety walks and identify hazards for corrective action.
  • Assist in OSHA recordkeeping and workers' compensation reporting.
  • Lead safety meetings and support risk assessment activities across the plant.
  • Investigate accidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper training and development of assigned employees and communicate safety goals.

Job Description

The EH&S Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the site EHS Manger to plan, direct, and implement Amcor's environmental, health and safety program to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly accident summary reports.
  • Assist with incident investigations.
  • Conduct and/or coordinates employee safety and environmental training programs to include new hire orientations.
  • Perform daily safety walks and assist with identifying and correction of work place hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Work with and assist on-site teams with risk assessment.
  • Assist in maintaining OSHA 300 Logs and relevant reports.
  • Assist in scheduling training courses/classes for in-house training opportunities.
  • Understand Emergency Procedure and assist in scheduled drills.
  • Assist in the Safety Committee and First Responder tasks.
  • Assist in Management of Change procedures.
  • Assist in workers compensation reporting.
  • Conduct incident reporting using the GDC incident-reporting database.
  • Identify hazardous conditions/actions within the plant and recommend corrective measures.
  • Investigate all accidents and property losses.
  • Provide Supervisors/Group leaders with safety training information for monthly safety meetings.
  • Organize and oversee all required safety training, i.e. fork truck, lockout, etc.
  • Provide safety orientation to new employees using the New Hire Onboarding Process.
  • Conduct chemical inventory and updating of SDS using Cornerstone Environmental, Health and Safety database.
  • Assist in purchasing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, in support of the EHS Framework under the direct supervision of the EHS manager.
  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.
  • Lead all required meetings with safety (i.e. Pre-shift, Department, Change Management, General communication, Town Hall, etc.).
  • Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible.
  • Sets goals for their organizational unit; achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals.
  • Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback.
  • Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.

Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management or a related field strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of Safety Experience in an industrial setting preferred.
  • Experience in the plastics industry helpful.
  • Some knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other government regulations.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
