Job summary

Alfred University is seeking an EH&S Coordinator to assure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations across its Schools and Colleges. The role reports to the EH&S Assistant Director and interacts with external agencies, contractors, and university stakeholders.

Responsibilities include developing fire protection plans, conducting inspections, delivering safety training, maintaining records, and coordinating with campus facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Safety & Health, EH&S Management, or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of five years of experience within the Environmental, Health and Safety functions & NYS Fire Codes.
• Demonstrated abilities to both work collaboratively and influence those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.
• Proficiency with office automation/communication software and tools.
• Detailed working knowledge of NYS Fire Codes, NFPA, EPA, OSHA, NYSDEC, and NYSDOL rules and regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to deliver training.
• Demonstrated ability to create EH&S training programs.

Responsibilities

• Implements the strategy for Fire/ Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives and updates policies.
• Coordinate inspections and evaluations of university facilities to identify risks and enforce safety practices.
• Develop and maintain Fire Safety Plans, Emergency Action Plans and related records.
• Design and deliver safety training programs, in person and asynchronously.
• Maintain EH&S records and logs, and assist with annual reports.
