Job summary

Thales Alenia Space seeks an Engineer for their EGSE Definition and Operational unit to operate automated test benches that validate satellite systems. The AIT ( Assembly, Integration and Test) department requires an Engineer for EGSE Definition and Operational unit. This unit is responsible of fully management of the complex automated test benches, called EGSE (Electrical Ground Support Equipment), able to test and validate the Satellite and Space System during all test phases up to launch site.

About the job

In this role the employee will be in charge to operate on EGSE and to support various AIT test phases during the project life. The working site is Torino, further your support is required abroad during the external test campaign phases (around 1 year, in Europe) including launch campaign (around 3 months, usually in USA).

Working on shift 24h/7d may be required on the basis of program AIT schedule. Availability to travel abroad and to work on shift is mandatory.

Your major duties are:

Support to define and procure EGSE components, writing specifications and to follow the EGSE supplier.

Write EGSE documentation (e.g. design and development plan, installation and commissioning procedures).

Manage and maintain fully operative, as hardware and software, the EGSE during all AIT activities up to launch campaign.

Participate to design/develop test support software (e.g. basic library, post processing and analysis tool).

Preparation and maintenance of satellite database on EGSE.

Analyze EGSE malfunction, issue of NCR (Non Conformance Report), manage the supplier in order to quickly solve it. Support and conduct all relevant troubleshooting and analysis in case of anomalies.

Install EGSE and execute commissioning/validation procedure in all foreseen external site.

About You

Education

Master’s degree in Electronic or Computer Engineering are preferred. Other master’s degree are evaluated if the required skills are met.

Skills and knowledge

Good knowledge of analog and digital electronics design and testing.

Good knowledge of Linux and Microsoft operating system as administrator.

Good knowledge of LAN network design, installation and troubleshooting, protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, RDP, SSH), firewall configuration, packets routing.

Good knowledge of C programming language and a scripting language.

Basic knowledge of data bus protocols.

Basic knowledge of database.

Practical experience in use laboratory instruments (e.g. digital multimeter, power supply, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, electronic load).

At least English B2 overall level is mandatory.

The following knowledge will be considered a plus:

Telecommunication and radio frequency design.

EGSE architecture and main components.

Satellite/Space System electrical architectural and typical component/subsystem functionality.

Satellite data busses 1553,CAN Bus, Spacewire, etc, and ESA Telemetry/Telecommand CCSDS/PUS data packet standard.

Real time system and embedded/distributed architectures, parallel programming.

Advanced SW design and development.

Programming language: C++, Java, TCL, bash, C#, Python, QT framework.

Windows or Linux certifications.

Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent.

Fluent English (C1).
