At OIT, we provide secure digital services that put Coloradans first.The Cloud Architect is responsible for designing and implementing the foundational infrastructure for a reliable, secure, high-performing, and cost-effective application hosting environment on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role requires deep technical expertise in core GCP infrastructure services and a proven ability to translate architectural designs into tangible deployments. This involves determining the best network design for the cloud, setting standards regarding VPC design and deployment, ensuring appropriate role-based access controls are established, and designing reusable configurations. Additionally, implementing automated provisioning strategies for various GCP compute resources and applications, including virtual machines, serverless services, and managed services. Establishing the monitoring and reporting required to ensure the environment is stable, capacity is well managed, and cost reporting is accurate and timely.
You will be responsible for crafting, publishing, socializing and overseeing adherence to the standards they establish, and modifying such standards to achieve the strategic goals of OIT, and the tactical needs of the applications deployed to the cloud. In addition, they will drive continuous improvement within the CloudOps team, as well as lifecycle management and exploration into evolving cloud-based solutions. You will handle the research, recommendations, and day-to-day interactions with vendors that have been partnered with to help meet work unit and organizational objectives. Some of the day to day duties include:
Maintain current expert knowledge and experience with all aspects of GCP to design and build Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) capabilities on that platform.
Directly participate in the hands-on configuration and deployment of core GCP infrastructure components
Architect, oversee, and directly contribute to the implementation/configuration of GCP and automation to allow service consumption.
Champion and implement an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) first approach for all deployable resources within GCP
Define and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for consumption of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS (via IaC) on GCP.
Create design documents/diagrams to show environment topology and data/process flows.
Monitoring system availability across a multi-vendor technology stack, to be able to maximize availability and rapidly diagnose/resolve issues when they arise.
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues with a hands-on approach
Act as Tier-3 escalation point for on-call/break-fix efforts, collaborating with Cloud Engineers and vendors to diagnose and resolve complex problems.
A minimum of five (5) years of infrastructure development experience with hands-on experience with GCP foundation services related to compute, network, storage, content delivery, administration and security, deployment and management, automation technologies.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably using Terraform.
Experience architecting highly available systems that utilize load balancing, horizontal scalability and high availability
Experience and understanding of large scale infrastructure deployments in enterprise-wide environments required.
Experience with automated Continuous Integration/Delivery
Experience with automation/configuration management using Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
Scripting skills in Python, Bash and PowerShell
Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Relevant cloud certifications
Experience with Azure DevOps
Experience with Terraform
OIT employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.
A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.
Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test.
This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed.
