Position Overview

Do you want to make Colorado even better? OIT provides secure digital services that prioritize Coloradans. The Cloud Architect is responsible for designing and implementing the foundational infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring a reliable, secure, high-performing, and cost-effective environment. This role requires deep technical expertise in GCP core services, translating architectural designs into deployments, and establishing standards and automation strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain expertise in GCP infrastructure services, including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and IaC capabilities.
  2. Configure and deploy core GCP infrastructure components.
  3. Lead architecture, automation, and implementation of GCP environments.
  4. Champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform.
  5. Create and maintain SOPs for cloud resource consumption.
  6. Design environment topology and data flows through diagrams.
  7. Monitor system availability and diagnose issues across multi-vendor stacks.
  8. Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues hands-on.
  9. Serve as Tier-3 escalation point, collaborating with engineers and vendors.
Additional Notes

This position supports the Department of Corrections and/or the Department of Public Safety, requiring additional background checks, a physical exam, and possible ongoing drug screening. Candidates must pass these before employment begins.

Compensation

The salary range is posted and based on a salary analysis considering experience, education, and certifications, in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least five years of infrastructure development experience with GCP core services.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
  • Experience designing highly available, scalable systems.
  • Experience with automation and scripting in Python, Bash, PowerShell.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant cloud certifications.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and Terraform.
Employment Conditions

Includes background checks, drug tests for certain agencies, and potential travel. Remote work is permitted within Colorado. Out-of-state candidates must relocate to Colorado.
