Rutgers University-New Brunswick is seeking a Community Assistant II to deliver EFNEP nutrition education to adult and youth participants in Essex County. You will teach evidence-based lessons, collect participant information, and support volunteers and staff.

The role requires evening and weekend availability, strong organization, and the ability to work with diverse communities. The position offers a full-time schedule and potential hybrid work arrangements in alignment with Rutgers policy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Demonstrated ability to read and write in English.
• Willingness to work nights and weekends.
• Self-starter with excellent time management.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Team player with ability to interact with diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness to improve educational level.
• Willingness to work with youth, adults, and seniors.
• Confidentiality of participant information.
• Knowledge of the local community.
• Willingness to learn and follow directions.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, limited-resource audience.
• Bilingual in Spanish.
• Preferred: Knowledge of video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Webex, Google Meets.

Responsibilities

• Teaches limited-resource target audiences according to program qualifications and guidelines while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
• Conducts all class sessions for the duration contracted with the site supervisor.
• Completes and collects demographic and food intake/behavioral information from each participant.
• Educates youth and adults using pre-approved nutrition curriculum.
• Encourages youth to share what they have learned with family members.
• Works with varied age groups and cultures.
• Assists the supervisor in organizing groups of 4 to 15 adult participants to meet at least 8 times for 4+ weeks.
• Assists the supervisor in organizing youth groups for the same purposes.
