Job summary

SCO Family of Service in New York, NY seeks a dedicated Case Aide to support families involved with foster care and related services. You will accompany families to appointments, assist with gathering documents, testify in court when needed, and collaborate with case planners, educators, and medical staff to promote safety and permanency.

The role requires strong communication, ability to travel 75% of the time, and a commitment to serving diverse communities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Approved background clearances and fingerprinting required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual abilities encouraged.
  • Knowledge of local welfare services is a plus.
  • Be a team player with a constructive, cooperative attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise family time between parents and children, and between siblings and other resources.
  • Provide visit coaching between parents and children to support healthy engagement.
  • Complete ongoing documentation within 7 business days of events.
  • Work with planning teams on Permanency Hearing Reports and court documents.
  • Gather vital documents such as birth certificates and social security cards.
  • Accompany families to appointments including school, medical, and treatment.
  • Assist families through Public Assistance and PATH processes, with referrals.
  • Meet with families in home or community settings; intervene in crises.
  • Attend court appearances and interdisciplinary team meetings; report on services.
  • Fulfill Mandated Reporter duties and discuss safety and permanency issues with supervisor.
  • Collaborate with SCO foster care staff and external agencies and partners.

Job description

  • Support and supervise family time between parents and children, as well as siblings and other significant resources. Provide transportation as needed.
  • Provide visit coaching between parents and children to support healthy family engagement.
  • Complete ongoing documentation in Connections with 7 business days of the event date.
  • Work in partnership with the case planning team on completion of Permanency Hearing Reports and court documents as it pertains to the Case Aide’s communication, contact, and collaboration with the family.
  • Support case planning staff in gathering or obtaining vital documents such as birth certificates, social security cards, etc.
  • Accompanying and supporting children and parents through various appointments including school, medical, and drug treatment, etc.
  • Support families through the Public Assistance process, PATH process, and provide referrals, as needed.
  • Meet with families in their home and/or community, as needed.
  • Intervene in crisis situations to help the child and family stabilize.
  • Attend and testify in court appearances, as needed.
  • Attend all interdisciplinary team meetings and actively provide information regarding services being provided to the child.
  • Fulfills duty of Mandated Reporter, which entails reporting any suspected instances of child abuse or maltreatment.
  • Meet with Supervisor one-on-one on a consistent basis to discuss safety and permanency issues of caseload.
  • Communicates and work effectively with SCO foster care support staff such as Case Planners, Socio-therapists, Fair Future Coaches and Education Specialists, Parent Advocates, and medical and mental health staff and with NYC Children’s Services, outside medical and mental health centers, schools, consultants, other SCO programs, and all other relevant parties.
  • Adheres to SCO’s personnel policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of local welfare services a plus.

  • Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families.
  • Be flexible in their ability to work extended hours or irregular schedules in response to the program’s needs. Be willing to travel between the various EFFC offices and other agency sites, as required.
  • Demonstrate an ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of practitioner, as well as to intervene appropriately
Education
  • High School or better.
