Job summary

SCO Family of Services is seeking a Case Aide to support families with child welfare services in New York. You will supervise family time, coach visitations, and assist with navigating court documentation and permanency planning.

You will work closely with case planners and other professionals to gather vital documents and coordinate services. Responsibilities include in-home and community meetings, crisis intervention, and testifying in court when required.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma; Associates degree preferred.
  • Background clearances and fingerprinting required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual abilities strongly encouraged.
  • Knowledge of local welfare services is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise family time between parents and children and siblings; provide transportation as needed.
  • Provide visit coaching to support healthy family engagement.
  • Complete documentation within 7 business days of events in Connections.
  • Collaborate with case planning team on Permanency Hearing Reports and court documents.
  • Assist in gathering vital documents (birth certificates, social security cards, etc.).
  • Accompany families to appointments (school, medical, treatment).
  • Support families through Public Assistance and PATH processes; provide referrals.
  • Meet families in home and community; respond to crises to stabilize the child and family.
  • Attend and testify in court appearances as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings; share information on services for the child.
  • Fulfills mandated reporter duties; report suspected child abuse or maltreatment.
  • Meet with supervisor regularly to discuss safety and permanency.
  • Communicate effectively with SCO staff, NYC Children’s Services, and other partners.

Job description

  • Support and supervise family time between parents and children, as well as siblings and other significant resources. Provide transportation as needed.
  • Provide visit coaching between parents and children to support healthy family engagement.
  • Complete ongoing documentation in Connections with 7 business days of the event date.
  • Work in partnership with the case planning team on completion of Permanency Hearing Reports and court documents as it pertains to the Case Aide’s communication, contact, and collaboration with the family.
  • Support case planning staff in gathering or obtaining vital documents such as birth certificates, social security cards, etc.
  • Accompanying and supporting children and parents through various appointments including school, medical, and drug treatment, etc.
  • Support families through the Public Assistance process, PATH process, and provide referrals, as needed.
  • Meet with families in their home and/or community, as needed.
  • Intervene in crisis situations to help the child and family stabilize.
  • Attend and testify in court appearances, as needed.
  • Attend all interdisciplinary team meetings and actively provide information regarding services being provided to the child.
  • Fulfills duty of Mandated Reporter, which entails reporting any suspected instances of child abuse or maltreatment.
  • Meet with Supervisor one-on-one on a consistent basis to discuss safety and permanency issues of caseload.
  • Communicates and work effectively with SCO foster care support staff such as Case Planners, Socio-therapists, Fair Future Coaches and Education Specialists, Parent Advocates, and medical and mental health staff and with NYC Children’s Services, outside medical and mental health centers, schools, consultants, other SCO programs, and all other relevant parties.
  • Adheres to SCO’s personnel policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma. Associates degree preferred.
  • Approved background clearances and fingerprinting are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Basic computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual abilities are strongly encouraged.
  • Knowledge of local welfare services a plus.

  • Work competently, compassionately and without judgment with individuals who may identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or may be in different stages of discovering or disclosing their sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families.
  • Be flexible in their ability to work extended hours or irregular schedules in response to the program’s needs. Be willing to travel between the various EFFC offices and other agency sites, as required.
  • Demonstrate an ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of practitioner, as well as to intervene appropriately
