EEG Technician

Location: Florence, Alabama
North Alabama Medical Center is a 263-bed facility offering the community's only open heart surgery site, a complete line of women's and children's services, and a comprehensive medical and imaging services line. It is a certified Chest Pain Center and recognized as a Primary Stroke Center of Excellence by the American Heart/American Stroke Association. The 24‑hour emergency department serves as the primary referral center for major trauma cases in Northwest Alabama.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of neurological cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures and special duties as assigned.
- Carry out duties and responsibilities according to policies approved by the Medical Director for Cardiopulmonary services.
- Review existing clinical data, collect additional data, and recommend the acquisition of pertinent information.
- Evaluate all data to determine the appropriateness and medical necessity of the test ordered.
- Select, assemble, and check the equipment necessary to perform the diagnostic test.
- Initiate, conduct, and modify the prescribed diagnostic procedure.
- Maintain patient records and communicate relevant information to members of the health‑care team.
- Assist with orientation and continuing education of trainees, medical staff, and other hospital employees.
- Promote age‑appropriate care to all patients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; graduate of an approved Electro‑Neurodiagnostic Program or AMA‑approved Respiratory Care Program, or a minimum of two years of clinical experience performing EEG testing.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist by the National Board of Cardiovascular Technology preferred or at least one year of experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Two years of experience in EEG testing.
- Advanced knowledge of neurology and cardiopulmonary physiology and related sciences, with the ability to demonstrate this knowledge to others.
- Preference given to certified or registered Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc., licensed by the state of WV, or Registered Electroencephalography Technologist by the American Society for Electroencephalography Society.
- Strong critical‑thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
