Job Summary And Qualifications
Under the direction of the Manager of Non-Invasive Cardiology/Neurodiagnostics, performs EEG studies, EMGs, evoked potentials, epilepsy studies and other related examinations according to established standards and practices at a high technical level.
Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates technical proficiency for basic digital EEG, including familiarity with national, hospital, and lab standards for testing. Utilizes the 10-20 system of electrode placement, performs manual measurements, skin preparation, and electrode application (paste and collodion). Demonstrates proper knowledge of montage selection based on patient condition. At the completion of all studies, removes electrodes, cleans patient and equipment, and documents all necessary paperwork.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and skill to recognize and correct artifact accordingly. Can successfully troubleshoot equipment and leads appropriately.
- Demonstrates technical proficiency for proper set-up of long‑term epilepsy studies, including lead placement and patient preparation. Familiar with checking the system during on‑going recordings and transferring digital data to the reading station for interpretation by a qualified reader.
- Demonstrates technical proficiency for set‑up of ambulatory EEG, including lead placement and patient preparation. Ensures proper and complete in‑services for all patients on the use of all equipment. Transfers all data as necessary to the reading station.
- Assists physicians in performing EMGs. Prepares the room and sets up the necessary equipment, arranges for patient transport, and provides all necessary supplies for the procedure. Assists and/or trains as needed in the performance of evoked potentials (VERs, BAERs, and SSEPs). Performs patient education about all procedures performed within the lab.
Additional Job Functions
- Initiates recall of third‑party vendor for the provision of peripheral vascular studies. Duties include contacting vendor, entering proper charges, and appropriate documentation.
- Maintains all patient reports, including pulling all previous reports/images/tracings, presenting paperwork/studies to the correct reading physician, notifying reading physicians of requests, logging book entries, and entering proper patient charges into Meditech.
- Takes “Call” on a rotating basis; acquires signed physician orders with appropriate indicator for all exams; maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Demonstrates good judgement in responding to STAT calls and the ability to prioritize STAT orders.
- Maintains cleanliness of the lab, including equipment and facilities. Follows proper disinfection techniques for equipment such as leads.
- Orders supplies. Checks each month for supply needs and orders appropriate amounts at the beginning of each month. Restocks supplies on equipment as necessary.
- Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

- Learns and complies with System and facility safety policies and rules; uses appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; immediately reports all unsafe conditions to supervisors; familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools, or materials encompassed by job duties; checks with supervisors prior to job performance if there is a question regarding safe procedure for any job function.
- Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior expected by patients, colleagues, and the community. Understands personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules, regulations, or the Code of Conduct.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred candidate would be a graduate of an AMA school of neurodiagnostics or a medical assistant course or its equivalent.
- Minimum of one‑year experience in a hospital setting performing neurodiagnostic procedures.
Minimum License and Certificates Required
- Preference given to candidates with registration from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (REEGT).
- CPR Certification.
