Job Overview

This job conducts and prepares patients for routine Electroneurodiagnostic (END) procedures, including EEG, Evoked Potentials, and specialized studies in the clinical setting. Collects data pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists medical staff with complex recordings. The job description is a summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

Education
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree or completion of an accredited END Program (CAAHEP) or accredited NDT Program (ABRET).
Experience
  • Clinical experience equivalent to 3 or more years training in the field.
Certifications
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred: Eligible for Certification in Neurodiagnostic Technology.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, such as nights, weekends, extended shifts, etc.
Responsibilities
  • Gathers appropriate information from the patient, records, family members, and other neurological symptoms and medications to write an accurate comprehensive patient history.
  • Recognizes patient or environmental artifacts and documents, eliminates or takes proper measures to monitor the artifact.
  • Ensures patient safety always by taking appropriate action during patient emergency situations.
  • Interacts with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the clinical staff and explains test procedures to the patient and family members present.
  • Practices basic infection control procedures relating to patient and equipment including electrodes.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Sedentary Work. The job requires walking or standing to a significant degree and may involve pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls. Exposure to blood, body fluid, tissue, communicable diseases, hazardous medications, or hazardous waste is possible. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
