Job summary

FMOL Health is seeking an EEG Technician to operate EEG equipment, apply electrodes, monitor patients, and assist physicians in neurology studies at the Lake Main Campus. The role emphasizes compassionate patient care, accurate data collection, and adherence to standard procedures.

The EEG Technician will perform standard neurodiagnostic tests and support the department with efficient operations. Regular day and weekend hours are typical.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Applies electrodes to predetermined positions (10-20 system) and checks performance.
  • Monitors patient during studies and prepares for potential emergencies.
  • Explains procedures and ensures patient cooperation while reducing anxiety.
  • Abstracts relevant information from clinical records and maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs standard electrophysiological procedures as ordered by physicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The EEG Tech operates an electroencephalograph to measure impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in diagnosis for brain disorders. The EEG Technician studies wave characteristics during test to detect evidence of brain disorders and may mark graph accordingly for study by a physician or neurologist. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Applies electrodes to predetermined measured positions (International 10-20 system) on patient's head, checks electrode performance, corrects artifacts, selects appropriate voltage for localizing abnormalities, and cleans electrodes and patient's scalp before next test while treating patients with compassion and understanding.
  • Monitors patient's condition during the course of a study and maintains preparation for cardiac, respiratory, and other emergencies which may develop while reassuring patients and attempting to reduce their fears.
  • Prepares patient by explaining procedures, ensures patient's cooperation during examinations, responds with compassion to patient needs, and attempts to reduce patient fears.
  • Abstracts relevant information from patient's clinical record, and obtains additional information if necessary while maintaining patient confidentiality.

  • Calibrates and adjusts neurodiagnostic apparatus in accordance with standard procedures and utilizes all neurodiagnostic materials and equipment in an efficient, cost conscious manner.
  • Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner in order to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high quality health care services.
  • Performs standard Electroneurodiagnostic procedures (e.g., Auditory Brainstem response, Visual Evoke Response, Somatosensory Evoke Potential, Clinical EEG's, ECI, Surgical Monitoring, long term monitoring) and specialized procedures as ordered by physicians.
