Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, FL seeks an EEG Technician to perform long-term Video-EEG monitoring and intraoperative monitoring with subdural/depth electrodes. You will conduct functional brain mapping, SPECT studies and ECS recordings under supervision, ensuring data integrity and patient safety.

The role requires graduate-level EEG training, BLS certification, and 1–3 years of pediatric EEG experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Electro-neuro-diagnostic Technology program accredited by the relevant body.
  • American Heart Association BLS valid and active during employment.
  • 1–3 years EEG experience with pediatrics, neonates, ICU and OR monitoring.
  • Special training in EEG equipment operation and data handling.

Responsibilities

  • Check equipment for patient safety, ensure sterility and report repairs.
  • Conduct functional brain simulation and mapping under supervision.
  • Maintain recording system integrity after electrode implantation.
  • Observe ECoG in OR to ensure electrode function and placement.
  • Obtain clinical history and explain procedures to patient/family.
  • Participate in conferences, meetings and educational activities.
  • Perform data retrieval and preprocessing for interpretation.
  • Analyze ictal/interictal features and artifacts.
  • Perform long-term Video-EEG monitoring using the 10-20 system.

Description

Performs Long Term Video-EEG monitoring on patients with scalp or intra-cranially placed electrodes. Responsible for intra-operative monitoring with subdural and depth electrodes; performs special studies such as Functional Brain Mapping (cortical stimulation) and SPECT. Executes job functions following the 'Guidelines for EEG and Long Term Neuro-diagnostic Monitoring in Epilepsy' as set down by the American Society of Electro-neuro-diagnostic Technologists.

Job Specific Duties
  • Checks equipment to ensure patient safety including sterility of subdural electrodes and monitoring cables; reports equipment repair requirements.
  • Conducts Functional Brain Simulation and Mapping (direct cortical stimulation), SPECT Studies and ECS recordings under supervision.
  • Responsible and maintains the integrity of the recording system after subdural electrode implantation.
  • Observes Electrocorticography from the exposed cerebral cortex in the OR during subdural electrode implantation along with the MD to assure proper placement & functioning of these electrodes.
  • Obtains clinical history from the chart, patient or other knowledgeable persons; explains procedure to the patient and family.
  • Participates actively in conferences, technical meetings and other educational activities.
  • Performs data retrieval, reduction operations and Video EEG records prepared in a form suitable for interpretation by the physician including prescreening EEG & behavioral data.
  • Analyzes complex ictal and interictal features as well as artifacts.
  • Performs Long Term Video-EEG Monitoring in the unit demonstrating proficiency in the International 10-20 system & supplementary positions; applies surface electrodes with paste or collodion.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Graduate of an Electro-neuro-diagnostic Technology program accredited by Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent formal on-the-job training.
  • American Heart Association BLS - must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • 1-3 years of experience as EEG Technician in basic EEG with emphasis in pediatrics, neonates, Intensive Care and Operating Room monitoring.
  • Special training in the operation of EEG equipment and experience in technical aspects of data recording, storage and retrieval.
