Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking educators to teach adult offenders within a corrections setting. Candidates must hold a DESE teaching certificate or be eligible to obtain one, and will plan lessons, maintain records, and deliver offender programming related to cognitive behavior and workforce skills.

Responsibilities include adhering to the approved course of study, collaborating with the teaching team, and providing instruction tailored to inmates’ educational needs.

Qualifications

• Current teaching certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), OR meet the eligibility requirements for, and be willing to obtain, a Missouri DESE Teaching Certificate.
• Plans/outlines classwork within prescribed limits; prepares materials for special study.
• As part of the teaching team: develops/implements/evaluates plans; participates in teacher conferences/meetings/educational research projects; maintains scholastic/attendance records; orders supplies.
• Delivers offender programming including cognitive behavior, financial literacy, workforce skills, etc.
• Receives general supervision from Education Supervisor or designated administrator.

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $1.50 per hour maximum security differential ($3,120 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a maximum-security institution.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current teaching certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), OR meet the eligibility requirements for, and be willing to obtain, a Missouri DESE Teaching Certificate.

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!

If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
