Job summary

The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has immediate full-time educator positions available at DNA Learning Center NYC (DNALC NYC) in Downtown Brooklyn. The selected candidate will join a small, influential team leading genetics education, genomics, bioinformatics, and data science.

You will teach hands-on genetics and molecular biology to precollege students, assist with lab testing, conduct teacher training, and present public tours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in science (biology or molecular genetics preferred).
• Experience or interest in teaching is advantageous.
• NYS teaching certification preferred but not required.

The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has immediate full-time educator positions available at DNA Learning Center NYC (DNALC NYC) in Downtown Brooklyn. The selected candidate will join a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods in genetics education, including the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, and data science. Position Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on genetics and molecular biology instructiton to precollege students visiting the DNALC for academic year field trips, summer camps, and extended research projects.
• Assist with laboratory testing and prep.
• Conduct teacher training.
• Present public tours.
• Conducting teacher training and developing teaching modules.

Position Requirements

Minimum job requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in science (biology or molecular genetics preferred).
• Experience:Strong science background required with an interest and/or experience in teaching.
• Other:
  • NYS teaching certification preferred, but not required.
  • Recent PhD graduates who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to apply-especially those with experience in personal genomics, DNA barcoding, metabarcoding, or bioinformatics.
• Knowledge/skills required to perform the job:
  • Strong content knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work closely with others.
  • Must be motivated and a self-starter.
  • Availability to travel (domestic and international).
